I find that coloring my hair once a month helps some as weird as that sounds. I use Dr. Miracle's 2-in-1 Tingling shampoo (Walgreen's drugstore carries it in the ethnic haircare section and it can be found online). Selsum Blue Medicated Shampoo sometimes mixed with epsom salt I used to use.
I have also done treatment baths like peroxide salt and baking soda ,or Palmolive Oxy Plus dish liquid (the blue or the green bottle) for baths and showers including scalp . I have mixed eucalyptus oil a few drops into body wash or shampoo.
I have done salt peroxide and baking soda baths soaking scalp and vinegar and salt baths.
I have used ecovie topical cleanse as body spray (1/5 ecovie the rest warm water in plant mister bottle to activate) and sprayed scalp when stung. For ecovie bath 3 tbs in full tub of warm water.

We find that using lice shampoo tends to deplete hair (cause it to fall out without replacement).
One thing that works surprisingly well is using the acid water that is expelled by water ionization machines. These machines treat ordinary water by splitting it into alkaline and acid components. The alkaline water is great for alkalizing the body from the inside out. All of the machine's affect on water is done electronically, so no chemicals are added.
Another thing that helps is to add tee tree oil and neem oil to ordinary shampoos. I get my oils through Swanson at a substantial discount in comparison to other sources. And its really good stuff. ( I have NO financial interest in Swanson. - www.swansonvitamins.com ) Often it is less costly to add oils to ordinary products than to buy products with oils added. And that way you know what the proportions are.
Unlike my picture here, I have actually grown a beard. And at first I was concerned that the critters might like to nest in it. What I have found however is that whenever I feel like something might be cruisin around in my beard I simply rub it aggressively. Picture yourself as a mite or scabie or filament within a bunch of hair. At first you might think you're Br'ere Rabbit in the brier patch. But then all of a sudden the log pile that you are in starts going crazy (as you are rubbing your hair) and the logs start compressing on top of you every which way and you have no out. I believe rubbing hair is an easy way to destroy these critters. And when done on the scalp it creates blood circulation below the scalp which is VERY good for rejuvenating follicles.

I find when it gets really bad, treating with safe and nontoxic lice shampoos helps.
